Food waste is something that is high on the agenda today, it is both so unnecessary - and at the same time there is money to be saved by reducing food waste.

By reducing food waste, we both improve household finances and conserve the planet's resources. The company Findus wants to drum up a little extra attention to what we gain from buying frozen food:

– There are several advantages to choosing frozen ingredients and frozen food. In addition to the fact that frozen products can contribute to reduced food waste and are therefore kinder to the wallet, freezing helps preserve nutrients. Deep freezing is one of the best methods for preserving vegetables and preserving their nutrients, explains Henrik von Lowzow, Nordic Cluster Marketing Director at Findus.

According to the UN, nearly a third of all food produced in the world is thrown away. Statistics from Eurostat show that in the Nordic countries, households account for the majority of food waste in the entire food chain, from farm to fork. In Sweden, households account for a full 70 percent of total food waste. In order for the UN's global goal of halving food waste by 2030 to be achieved, a change needs to occur both within the food industry and in households.

– We at Findus want to increase consumers' awareness of how simple choices in everyday life can contribute to reduced food waste in the home, says Henrik von Lowzow, Nordic Cluster Marketing Director at Findus.

Food waste is caused by various factors: it can be that we buy too much, forget what we bought or that we don't have time to eat the food in time. An easy way to get around all these problems is to buy more frozen products. In addition to frozen ingredients and products having a longer shelf life, it is easy to manage portions and only take out the amount needed from the freezer.

Frozen products contribute to reduced food waste at several levels of the food chain. A new life cycle analysis commissioned by Nomad Foods shows that frozen products in most cases have the same or lower carbon footprint than equivalent non-frozen products, which is driven by reduced food waste.

There is simply a lot of evidence that frozen food will become an asset for Swedish households in their quest for a more sustainable future. Findus will continue to be a pioneer in the category and work to ensure that more families enjoy good food and ingredients that simplify life and are good for the wallet and the environment.
