During 2025-2028, SJ's double-decker trains will undergo extensive renovation to improve the experience for passengers. The first train is already rolling out onto the tracks.
Easier to work on board
New cushions and upholstery with leather details make the seats more comfortable. The tables have been lowered to make it easier to work with computers and the pair seating has been increased for more legroom. The number of groups of four with facing each other has been reduced. Radio-transparent windows have been installed, which means that mobile signals from all mobile operators along the tracks enter the train and methods that speed up data transfer can also be fully used. With this technology and our new 5G-based wifi, you get a secure connection with high speed and stability. The power sockets have also become more numerous and more easily accessible.

Improved traveler information
New information signs both inside and outside, and better lighting make the journey easier. The new exterior design also makes it even more clear that it is an SJ train.
New surfaces throughout the train
The interior surfaces of the train have been replaced to give it a more modern and fresh look. The toilets have also been given upgraded surfaces and new septic tanks to reduce bad smells. The updated surfaces and new replaceable seat cushions make it easier to keep the train clean, for a comfortable journey on every departure.
The renovation is part of an upgrade that is carried out when the trains are approximately 20 years old. The trains will continue to operate on the Linköping-Stockholm-Gävle-Ljusdal and Stockholm-Västerås-Örebro-Gothenburg lines.
