The caffeine in coffee is attributed a range of health benefits, not least its impact on energy levels, making us more alert. But it also has physical effects, including improved muscle strength and endurance. A study of amateur cyclists showed that coffee improved performance by an average of 1.7 per cent over two hours.
On average, it takes approximately 45 minutes for all the caffeine from a cup of coffee to be absorbed by the body. Coffee is also linked to a reduced risk of Parkinson's disease, which may be due to caffeine increasing the neurotransmitter dopamine in the brain. To get the most benefit from coffee, one should drink three cups a day. This is because it is associated with a 25 percent reduction in heart disease and premature death.
