Through a chemical process, BASF and baesiq are now producing bicycle bags from recycled old car tires. The material is both functional and durable, and the structure is similar to cotton.
“Customers get a product with a lower CO2 footprint, but with the same quality as before. In this way, we promote a circular economy and we also reduce fossil fuel dependence,” says Susanne Kuschel, Senior Public Affairs Manager at BASF.
In practical terms, the production takes place by BASF supplying pyrolysis oil from end-of-life tires via a mass-balanced polyamide. This can then replace the fossil resources otherwise required in production.
– Thanks to the collaboration with BASF, we are the first to produce functional bicycle bags made of the sustainable polyamide. Our bicycle bags show that we can combine innovation and responsibility to create a sustainable future together, says Holger Fabianski, Product Manager at baesiq.
The bag, which costs around 130 Euros, can be purchased online or in the Adis Gladis store on Södermalm in Stockholm.
