Seven houses by a lake, welcome to a relaxed check-in. Understated luxury is the theme, the aesthetic Scandinavian with Japanese influences.
Sjöparken is the name of this project, which is also the new accommodation option for those checking into Ästad Vingård in Halland. Each house contains four hotel rooms, with a common theme being the blurring of the lines between indoors and outdoors. Private swimming spots and a private sauna are included in the concept. Reflections in the water, and plays of light and shadow, come as a bonus.

- This project is about balance. We wanted to create something that stood out and was spectacular in the most understated and natural way possible. A project that seems to be at one with nature right here, and at the same time something spiritual and unique, says Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen, architect and one of the founders of Danish Norm Architects.

And perhaps a few days of tranquility here are exactly what's needed for that optimal relaxation. Listening to the water, letting the sun warm, the wind howl, and thoughts fly. Good enough. But here, there's also the restaurant ÄNG with its associated Michelin star, run by Filip Gemzell. The concept is a tasting menu at 2,400 SEK per person, with drinks booked on-site. Here at Ästad Vingård, you shouldn't miss the estate's own produced wine. Stroll among the vines and book a wine tasting.
But as I said, just hanging out in the room isn't too bad either...
