The falls and lock area in Trollhättan has been named Industrial Monument of the Year 2025 by the Swedish Industrial Monuments Association. The award will be presented at Lock Day in August this year. The justification reads: ”The falls and lock area forms a unique node where Vänern and the Göta River are connected through an area where enormous amounts of water rush forward. The Olidan power station was built here in 1908–1909 – at the time Sweden’s largest hydroelectric power station – and is still in operation. The power station was designed by architect Erik Josephsson and is an outstanding example of civil engineering in the national romantic style.” Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Olidan power station has harnessed the power of the falls and the locks have enabled ship traffic past the Trollhättan Falls. The area is today a listed building and of national interest, as well as a popular place for walks, guided tours and events such as the Falls Days
