The AI boom is not only visible in code but in kilowatts. According to analyses reported by Reuters, electricity consumption from data centers in the Nordic region is expected to triple by 2030. Sweden, Norway and Denmark are attractive with fossil-free electricity and cold climates.
The challenge is to connect them. In several European countries, a grid connection can take up to ten years. For municipalities that want AI installations, access to power can outweigh both land price and detailed planning.
