Stanford has released its 2024 AI Index report – its most comprehensive yet. The report shows that AI is outperforming humans in specific tasks such as image classification and language analysis. For example, AI can recognize images and interpret text faster and more accurately than humans. But when it comes to more complex challenges such as advanced mathematics, visual understanding and strategic planning, AI still struggles to match human ability. These tasks require deeper reasoning and problem-solving skills, which AI has not yet fully mastered. The US leads the development of top AI models. China and Europe lag slightly behind.
